Despite all the travelling adventures I drag my family on, I think you can\u2019t beat a simple Eurocamp style holiday with toddlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stayed at Homair camping site Le Chene Gris in France. Homair are similar to Eurocamp sites and owned by the same parent company: The European Camping Group. Which does mean you can book through Eurocamp and search for discount codes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Chene Gris is around a 3 hours drive<\/a> from Calais, we usually take the Ferry Crossing with toddlers <\/a>to France to let our toddlers stretch their legs and for the cheap wine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also only a 30 minute drive from Disneyland Paris<\/a> so many families use this as a base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we had a Christmas Disney trip coming up we decided not to go this time but I am pretty sure I could report my husband for emotional abuse being so close to a Disney park and not actually being able to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Chene Gris is absolutely perfect for toddlers. It is ridiculously cheap so remember that when reading this article. For what we paid it was fantastic, if we paid a lot, it would be rubbish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The site is actually really small which is fantastic for transporting toddlers to the swimming or play areas. Annoyingly we bought our bikes and didn\u2019t use them at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accomodation at Le Chene Gris<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As we came in the Summer holidays, we went for the cheapest accommodation possible (above the safari tents though \u2013 we are not heathens.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u2018classic comfort\u2019 did not feel me with much hope, but I was actually pleasantly surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have stayed at a Marvilla Park<\/a> before and the outside area was fantastic, with a really comfy cushion corner sofa. Whereas Homair had the plastic cheap patio furniture. However, it was actually more comfortable than it sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also has a sturdy gate to keep toddlers safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t realise but the kid\u2019s room actually had bunk beds which they were very excited about. Don\u2019t worry, it had bunk beds plus a single bed so both of them could sleep nearer to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like most European accommodations, there was no oven only a hob and microwave for cooking. You can hire a BBQ but when we know this in advance, we either take our air fryer or this time we actually took our pizza oven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another thing to note about the more basic accommodation was that there was no toaster, which I found odd and quite annoying as my toddlers are absolute toast monsters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supermarket is basic. I would try and bring everything that you need with you. Though fresh produce is limited, you can get fresh baguette every day which my toddlers enjoyed anteatering the middle out of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can, like all Eurocamp sites, request a baby bath, potty, cot or bed rail for free. We always get a baby bath because my two love playing in it with their water toys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most frustrating thing about the accommodation is the bedding. Bedding is not included. You can pay for bedding packages but with 4 beds, that can add up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took our own, which is fine if you are driving but it could be an annoying additional cost if you don’t have the space to take it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities for toddlers at Le Chene Gris<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Le Chene Gris, there are two playgrounds, small but decent swimming facilities and a soft play to keep toddlers entertained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the site is so small, two playgrounds are sufficient. Both parks are also easily accessible for toddlers with no Mount Everest sized equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are both sandy so be sure to pack some sand toys<\/a> for your toddlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the parks is not near the main entertainment site but just a short walk and possibly closer to your accomodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The swimming area, though small, was absolutely perfect for my 2 and 4-year-old. There are two small outdoor pools; one covered swimming pool that is absolutely perfect for growing tomatoes or proving dough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where my two toddlers spent most of their time was the shallow splash park with a fountain and couple of slides<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My 2-year-old absolutely loves a splash park but my 4-year-old can sometimes get a bit bored if the water is too shallow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This splash park was perfect because next to the slides was a deaper (but still able to stand) area for my daughter to enjoy. She was in heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pool is also completely sealed with a locked gate so if your toddler is using the other play areas there is no fear of them entering the pool area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a good soft play at Le Chene Gris which is in a marquee, ideal for rainy days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole area was totally accessible for my 2-year-old but big enough to entertain my 4-year old. Still, the best bit by far is that it is right next to the bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evenings, we could sit right near the single entrance, have a drink and actually have a conversation. I think the third safety warning of the soft play rules was to be prepared to find out how boring your partner actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After dinner time, the place was full of children which meant our two would be happy, making friends, for hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entertainment for toddlers at Le Chene Gris<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is a Kid\u2019s Club, most days, at Le Chene Gris for children aged 4 years plus. We did put high heels and lipstick on my 2-year-old son and try to smuggle him in but despite him being potty trained, it was a no-go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My 4-year-old daughter really enjoyed it and although it was only 10-12, it was a nice break in the day. It was quite simple with them playing games and doing some crafts but that is really all young children need. I would say the oldest child there was about 8, I can\u2019t imagine any older Kevin and Perrys enjoying it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was \u2018entertainment\u2019 throughout the day but the only thing our toddlers enjoyed was the pool side dances \u2013 yes that includes Baby Shark so prepare for that bad boy to be stuck in your head for the duration of your holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was other scheduled entertainment but none of it seemed overly toddler friendly but in fairness we did not see it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a kid\u2019s disco at 20.30 every night. We all know my biggest bug bare of any holiday with toddlers is the disco. It is simple, put some songs on that they know and let them loose: no conga, no 90s bangers, keep it simple. Chene Gris did this, the only problem being is that it was about 10 minutes long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They lure children to the \u2018dance floor\u2019 away from the soft play, away from their healthy nutritious beige dinner to do two rounds of the Hokey Cokey and that is it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 10 minutes was great but I can say the same about my husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One night the Homair Tiger charcter came out but that was absolute chaos. The characters are branded around the park so it is a shame we only saw one once in a week’s stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each night there is different \u2018adult\u2019 entertainment from 9pm and one night was a Disney music quiz (which I obviously nailed) but nothing other than that was particularly toddler friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So actually, the only thing to entertain your children in the evening is the soft play which can be absolute carnage past 7pm when the pool shuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which brings me to my only negative about Le Chene Gris…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This section of my review is going to make me sound extremely judgmental but all I am aiming for is complete honesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me remind you that I grew up in Essex, on a council estate and my teenage diet was 10 B&H washed down with White Lightening – I am far<\/em> from Hyacinth Bucket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what I was bought up on was manners and quite a few holiday makers at Le Chene Gris lacked them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quite a few times my children got hurt, deliberately, with the parents nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was in the communal toilets (probably because we tried to cook chicken in a pizza oven) for someone to continuously shake the door and violently bang on it \u2013 there were other toilets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, we have been in the nicest most expensive resorts across the world and still encountered dickheads. It, unfortunately, just felt a little more prominent here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To balance out the idiots, there were so many lovely families that we interacted with making our trip more enjoyable so don\u2019t let my scepticism put you off booking a holiday at Le Chene Gris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending on a high, this really is such a great holiday park for toddlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As soon as we left, I wanted to book a return trip. I think this is the absolute perfect base for a Disneyland Paris Summer holiday or a cheap and cheerful campsite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facilities and accommodation are not ground breaking but that is because the overall cost was not bank breaking which is ideal for a family trip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
